OUR HISTORY OUR STAFF OUR REVIEWS CONTACT US

Our mission is to wisp our guests away to Latin America, surrounded by the sounds, smells and tastes of a Cabo San Lucas cantina, supported by excellent service, extraordinary food and an interactive, happy staff.

Las Montanas was developed by Fletcher McCusker, a Telluride resident and a native Tucsonan. He paired with Scott Richards, formerly the manager of the Roma, to create a new experience in Telluride. McCusker bought the old Jody's Kitchen at the corner of Davis and Pacific streets in May of 2004. The team spent the next six months gutting the old facility and remodeling. The image they wanted was that of a Latin cantina.

The kitchen was opened and tiled, an antique bar was imported from South America, star lights were brought up from Mexico along with saltillo tile, hand blown glassware and talavera plates.  The restaurant opened to rave reviews on December 10, 2004.

Due to overwhelming demand Las Montanas moved to it's larger and current location at 100 West Colorado Avenue (Main Street) in March 2006 and once again opened it's doors to host the finest in Latin cuisine and also sizzling live music at night for the cantina, Club Las Montanas.

Continuing on it's delicious success Las Montanas is pleased to welcome Alejandro Barreda as its new Executive Chef. Alejandro is an internationally acclaimed chef, identified as the best chef in Latin America, a Culinary Institute graduate and trained in Paris and London before taking on many prestigious jobs in Mexico City. Alejandro is a celebrity in Mexico having been the Executive Chef for TV Azteca as well as Men’s Health Espanol.

Alejandro will be presenting his European influenced Latin dishes through nightly specials in addition to our very popular cantina menu.

Alejandro’s best kept secret is his passion for coffee and you will notice new espresso machines and other tools of the trade at the back of he restaurant. Alejandro’s restaurant was voted best coffee in Mexico and his unique drinks are now featured in Telluride. See his Specialty Coffee Menu now available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Whether you are in just for a taco and a beer or sampling Alejandro’s specials every night (as many customers do) you will see his signature everywhere from tableside prepared fresh guacamole, to new deserts.

PS: He loves to talk about food, invite him over to your table, or better yet reserve the chef’s table and have a five course meal prepared by North America’s best Latin chef.
